Do you know WorldWideWeb and World Wide Web are two different terms? You might not agree but wait a while you will find the differences.

Now, let’s learn the differences between the two terms World Wide Web and WorldWideWeb

World Wide Web

The World Wide Web (‘www’ or ‘the web’) is a network of documents (simply webpages) that are accessible via the internet. On the internet, our documents are identified by Uniform Resources Locators (URL, such as www.facebook.com). The World Wide Web is the core for the development of the information age and a tool for billions of people to interact on the Internet. It was invented by Sir Timothy Berners-Lee in 1989.

While working at European Center for Nuclear Research (CENR), Tim became frustrated with the inefficiencies and difficulty of retrieving information stored on separate systems. So, Tim proposed a project to CERN in 1989, recommending that hypertext technology (Hypertext) be used to connect CERN’s numerous laboratories first. At that time, Tim also made a cartoon to satirize the inability to exchange information between computers at the time.

In 1991, Tim Berners Lee developed the first WWW website, which is also the first website in the world http://info.cern.ch/. You can still access this website.

People often get confused about the internet and the web. Many people think that the internet and the world wide web are the same things. They are closely linked but two different systems.

The World Wide Web is only one of the services that the Internet provides. It is a service that runs on the Internet. But the internet is a network of networks. In a simple language, the Library is the internet and books are the web.

WorldWideWeb

WorldWideWeb is a web browser and webpage editor developed on a NeXT computer at CERN. It is the first web browser created by Sir Timothy Berners-Lee in 1990. It was the first What You See Is What You Get(WYSIWYG) HTML editor and the only web browser in existence at the time it was built. It was written in Objective-C.

WorldWideWeb

Tim came up with several names for his new program, including The Mine of Information and The Information Mesh. Finally, WorldWideWeb was picked. Since World Wide Web was already created so to avoid confusion between the web and the web browser, WorldWideWeb was later renamed Nexus.

In February 2019, in honor of WorldWideWeb’s 30th anniversary, a group of developers and designers gathered at CERN to reconstruct the original browser within a modern browser, allowing users all across the world to experience the humble beginnings of this revolutionary technology.

Now you can access the world's first web browser by click on this link. https://worldwideweb.cern.ch/browser/

To access the World Wide Web from WorldWideWeb you can follow the below steps:

1. Click to launch

2. Select “Document” from the menu on the left side.

3. Select “Open from full document reference”.

4. Then type a URL into the “reference” field.

5. Click “Open”.

I hope you are clear now and have learned the differences between World Wide Web and WorldWideWeb.
